Georgio’s in Farmingdale: Coffee rarities
Georgio's Coffee Roasters has come into possession of some of the world’s most sought-after beans: La Esmeralda Geisha from Panama and Kopi Luwak from Indonesia. At the 2012 Hacienda La Esmeralda auction, some lots sold for as much as $65.50 a pound. As for Kopi Luwak (aka “cat poo coffee"), the just-picked beans are left overnight on the ground so that local civets can ... process them. In the morning, they are collected and vigorously sanitized.
On Oct. 27 at 4 p.m., Georgio’s will host a tasting and discussion of both coffees for $20 per person. Reservations required.
After the tasting, the La Esmeralda will be selling for $100 a pound for as long as it lasts; participants will get a 20 percent discount. The Kopi Luwak is priced at $20; no discounts.
In other, less rarefied coffee news from proprietor Georgio Testani, starting this week, his store will be holding tastings every Friday from noon to 4 p.m. Three different coffees will be brewed.
Georgio’s Coffee Roasters is at 1965 New Hwy., Farmingdale 631-470-7797.
