Two years in the making, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company's new brewery in Peconic is open on the former site of Lucas Ford Trucks. And Long Island's biggest independent brewery will be celebrating its grand opening on Saturday, July 12.

There will be a $25 ticketed VIP session with complimentary beer from 3 to 4 p.m. (Click here for tickets.) From 4 to 8 p.m., the event is open to the public with free admission and $5 Greenport beers, food trucks and live music from Twenty 12 Band and The East River Bandits.

Rich Vandenburgh and John Liegey founded Greenport Harbor Brewing in 2009 in  a converted 19th century firehouse next to the old jail in downtown Greenport. The tasting room at the original location will stay open.

Liegey said Greenport's more "experimental beers" would be developed there. "We see it as the heart of the brewery."

Liegey added "We'll be able to make in 12 hours what took six days in Greenport." He expects production of about 54,000 barrels to be made in Peconic, compared with about 3,400 in Greenport.

Greenport Harbor Brewing Company is at 42155 Main Rd., Peconic, 631-477-1100.
