Groppelo's in Port Washington: First bites

The newest addition to Shore Road's route of restaurants is an old-fashioned spot, Groppelo's.
Italian with a few Latin touches, Groppelo's is a warm, friendly restaurant. And it's an especially welcome dining room when the weather forecast mirrors today's.
You'll find tasty, little pizzas. Among them: the Venezia, which may not evoke La Serenissima, but will spark your appetite with prosciutto, salami, onions basil, mozzarella and tomato sauce; and the Toscana, which also plays with geography, but delivers a pie with fresh and smoked mozzarella, ricotta, arugula and tomato sauce.
Also flavorful are grilled shrimp, encircling broccoli rabe and accented with pico de gallo; and a rustic, on-the-bone chicken scarpariello. There are plenty of pastas, among them a husky special of lasagna with beef and linguine with clam sauce.
Try a rich square of housemade tiramisu for dessert.
Main courses range from the high teens to the mid-twenties.
