Less than two years after it opened in Port Washington, Guajiro Restaurant has closed. The Cuban eatery occupied the oft-churned Manorhaven Boulevard spot that had previously been Dolce and, before that, ¡Ay Que Rico!, Livorno and Nick & Pedro’s. All benefited from the spacious, secluded back patio, but all suffered from the out-of-the-way location.

Since Guajiro opened in March 2016, two more Cuban restaurants have opened on Long Island: The Cuban in Garden City and Babalu NY in Huntington. They join Rincon Criollo in Huntington Station, Havana Central in Garden City, Tony Cuban in Freeport, Corazon de Cuba in Long Beach and Café Havana in Smithtown.

Posted on Guajiro’s door was a “stop work” order from the Village of Manorhaven building department, so it appears that someone has plans for the site’s future.
