Fans of the Hampton Bays Diner, which closed in July, may see the local landmark reopen.
The owners of the popular Moriches Bay Diner in Moriches are “strongly interested” in taking over the Hampton Bays site, said Thomas Charos of Charos Properties Ltd. in Riverhead, which owns the property.
Charos praised the prospective buyers for their experience and skills. But a deal had not been finalized yet, he added.
The owners of the Moriches Bay Diner did not respond immediately to inquiries about the extent of their interest in acquiring the Hampton Bays property.
The Hampton Bays Diner, at 157 W. Montauk Hwy., shut because of a dispute over rent and taxes. The former proprietors, who had operated the diner for 31 years, filed for bankruptcy.
