Hibachi hullabaloo in Commack

Get ready for clanging knives, airborne shrimp and tweener birthday parties.

Izumi Sushi, Hibachi & Steak House, a new Japanese restaurant, is fixing to open April 20 in the hard-to-find hard-to-fill Commack location once home to Sweet Basil Asian Fusion Restaurant.

This is one of those you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it spaces, wedged into a corner of a shopping center and absolutely cavernous on the inside. According to co-owner sushi chef Jason Chen, the restaurant will hold 14 hibachi tables. That's a lot of flaming onion volcanoes.

Interestingly, this new Izumi is not related to Izumi Japanese Asian Bistro in Bethpage.
