With highs in the upper 70s predicted for Long Island, the timing of Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's on Tuesday couldn't be better.

The tradition began back in 1979, when co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield served up free scoops to residents in Burlington, Vermont, the home of Ben & Jerry’s, as a thank you for the company surviving its first winter.

Long Island survived the frigid winter of 2026. Tuesday will feel almost like summer.

Last year, Ben & Jerry’s handed out 1 million free scoops of ice cream on Free Cone Day.

On Tuesday, the tradition continues.

Here’s how it works: go to your local participating shop, ask for a free cone. Want more than one? No problem, Ben & Jerry’s says. There are many flavors to choose from, including Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Cookie Dough, Sweet Cream & Cookies, Mint Chocolate Chunk or Marshmallow Sky?

Why not one of each?

Free cones will be available at participating shops in 13 countries on Tuesday. To find a shop on Long Island, just click here.
