Ichiban Sushi replaces Tai Show East in Oakdale
It’s a familiar scenario on Long Island: One Japanese restaurant closes, another rises in its place. This time, it’s happened in Oakdale, where Ichiban Sushi has opened in the former digs of Tai Show on Montauk Highway. (Other Tai Show restaurants — in Massapequa, Levittown and East Setauket — remain open.)
“We’ve changed the decor; it’s a lot warmer now,” said general manager Paul Su, who added that a new crew of chefs “from the city” is currently turning out sushi and kitchen dishes.
On the menu: hamaguri (clam) soup ($4.50), yellowtail jalapeño ($8.95), rock shrimp tempura ($8.95), seafood ceviche ($10.95), an Ichiban roll featuring salmon, tuna, avocado and spicy sauce ($9.95), chirashi ($17.95) grilled short ribs ($16.94), tofu and vegetable teriyaki ($11.95) and sho-yo ramen soup with roast pork ($9.95).
Ichiban Sushi is at 1543 Montauk Hwy., Oakdale, 631-218-0808,
