Tra’mici, the Massapequa Park restaurant that has gone through a number of concepts and chefs, is closed.

The Merrick Road restaurant opened as Cavendish & Ross Steakhouse in March 2015, taking over the former site of Varsity Grill. Later that year, owner Robert Saba brought aboard chef Massimo Fedozzi, the Genoese native who had earned 3½ stars for his cooking at both Pentimento in Stony Brook and Vero in Amityville (now closed). Fedozzi added some Italian dishes to the menu and the steakhouse became an “Italian Chop House.” Then, in September, after a brief closure for renovations, Cavendish & Ross relaunched as Tra’mici Ristorante Italiano.

By January, Fedozzi was out, replaced by Joe Balbo (who had just left his position at three-month-old Gastronomy in Huntington Station). Now word reaches us that Balbo has moved one block west to Taste American Grill.

Tra’mici’s phone message says the restaurant is “closed for renovations until the middle of April.”
