That’s three strikes for 1029 Port Washington Blvd. Jade Eatery & Lounge, the Asian-fusion eatery that opened there last May, has closed. Owner Arun Kumar, who also operates the 2-year-old Jade in Hicksville, said that it "was much more difficult to get staff" to make the trip to Port Washington.
The restaurant identified as "modern Asian fusion," but that didn’t convey the breadth of the menu. Globe-trotting through Japan, Thailand, China and India, it was apparently too broad to be printed and lived on a tablet that customers swiped through. There was also a popular (but, apparently, not popular enough) happy hour.
Jade is in good company: Neither Waterzooi (2020-23) nor Mesita (2023-25) was able to make a go of the spot at the corner of Port Washington Boulevard and Main Street that had been a Wells Fargo Bank and, before that, a dry cleaner. Both were owned by longstanding hospitality companies that operate successful locations elsewhere.
The property’s configuration may be a problem: The main entrance is in the back and all passers- and drivers-by can see from the road is a sign and non-working doors covered with more signage.
