Was it Harold and Kumar they reminded me of? Or Bill and Ted? The two young men behind the counter at Juicy Burger in Glen Cove were perfectly friendly, if seemingly more interested in chatting and watching TV than serving customers. Certainly they didn’t seem to use any of their down time to tidy up behind the counter.
I can’t think of a less accurate description of my cheeseburger than “juicy.” It was a dry little disk topped with processed “cheese” on a forgettable bun. The hand-cut fries, however, were excellent.
The establishment’s full name is Juicy Burger & Ice Cream Joint. It’s located in what looks like an old Carvel, overlooking Glen Cove’s public ballfields. Besides burgers (beef, turkey, vegetarian) and fries, it also serves Hershey’s ice cream.
While I “dined” at one of the establishment’s outdoor tables, a father and his young son received their paper-bagged order. “We cooked an extra burger by mistake,” one of the young men told the dad, “so I’m just giving it to you.”
“Would you like it?” asked the dad.
“Oh no, I’m a vegetarian,” responded the Juicy Burgermeister.
