Mediterranean restaurant Kabobshak closes in Selden

Kabobshak, which brought a taste of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine to Selden, has closed.
The restaurant specialized in preservative-free fare, from its sandwiches and salads to kebab platters and vegetarian dishes.
Kabobshak received a two-and-one-half star rating in Newsday last year. The eatery also won a place on Newsday's annual Top 100 restaurant list. It was an order-at-the-counter spot for eating in or taking out.
Popular dishes included kebabs made with beef and lamb; chicken kebab sandwich with spicy tahini sauce; falafel sandwiches; shawarma chicken, beef and lamb; "loaded" shawarma fries; a vegetarian kebab with hummus; lentil soup; grape leaves with yogurt sauce; and tabbouleh and fattoush salads; and mujadara, a combination of lentils and rice with crisp onions. Kabobshak offered house-made pita. The desserts ranged from halvah to baklava.
The most expensive dishes were rib-eye shish kebab and a mixed grill of three meats. Both were $15.99.
