As glittery as the Huntington original, Kashi Sushi & Steakhouse opens in Rockville Centre with stylish Japanese favorites as well as a hibachi grill.

It's also just as good, with fine sushi and cooked fare. There are standout "signature rolls" plus east-west dishes that include a spin on seafood risotto with black and brown rice, filet mignon with Thai basil, and surf-and-turf with filet mignon and lobster.

A cold appetizer dubbed "chu chu lobster" is a refreshing combo of lobster salad, seared pepper tuna and coconut-sweetened guacamole. The tuna tortilla also is fun, capped with guacamole, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, jalapeño pepper and tobiko roe.

Sashimi and more traditional sushi, however, are the primary draw at the new Kashi showcase, which took over the former space of Tandoor Grill and a studio.

Early on, it's definitely in step.
