Long Island's vegetarians, a long-neglected group, now have a new spot to call their own. L.I.V.E. (Long Island Vegetarian Eatery) opened last week in Seaford under the same ownership as The Leaky Lifeboat Inn, a bar situated next door. The new place, geared to takeout, also offers seating at six tables. Bar patrons next door can order food off its menu.

The chef, Austin Pollack, became a vegetarian this past summer. Before that, he worked for Ben’s Deli and Jake’s Wayback Burgers — not the conventional resume you'd expect of a vegetarian chef. The menu focuses on meat substitutes, most of which are soy-based. There’s sweet and sour “chick’n” over rice ($10), a “meatball” Parmesan hero ($8) as well as pulled “pork” sliders ($7). Vegans can opt for a personal pizza made with vegan cheese ($10).

L.I.V.E. is at 3601 Merrick Rd., Seaford, 516-785-5483.
