THIS RESTAURANT HAS CLOSED.

La Capannina is one of Long Island's veteran Italian restaurants, resolutely resisting the trend of the day. It's has some old-fashioned charm, pretty continental appointments and experienced service. The food generally is good, often better. But the best advice is to order conservatively. Recommended appetizers include a savory combo of mushrooms and polenta and baked clams oreganata. They prepare a respectable penne alla primavera, linguine with white clam sauce, and chicken francese. Good idea to go with the daily specials, too.
