A  photo on the to-go menu of the new Wild Rice Premium Chinese & Pan-Asian Cuisine in Lake Grove was tempting enough to draw me back --  on the eve of Hurricane Irene. The power shot was of a heaping bowl of roast pork mei fun noodle soup.

It was worth the drive to this casual new takeout and eat-in spot for that soup alone. Peppery broth. Lots of baby bok choy. A tangle of thin rice noodles. And, best of all, plenty of juicy, smoky altogether delicious hunks of Chinese roast pork.

Seafood soup (some shrimp, calamari and too much surimi) with tender shrimp dumplings and egg noodles was OK, but not in the same league.

For dinner, later that night, I warmed up a takeout order of Thai mango chicken. Not bad. What was truly delicious was a vegetarian item -- diagonally sliced Japanese eggplant in a robust garlic sauce.
