New American restaurant The Lake House moving to new location on Great South Bay in Bay Shore

The Lake House, on the banks of Bay Shore’s block-long Lawrence Lake, is moving to much bigger digs on a much bigger body of water. Partners Eileen and Matt Connors and Jason Gut have just signed the lease on a free-standing building that overlooks the Great South Bay. The last tenant at 135 Maple Ave. (about 20 years ago) was Beefsteak Charlie’s. The building is being completely gutted and renovated.
The Lake House opened in 2006, promptly earned three stars from Newsday’s Peter M. Gianotti, and has remained one of Long Island’s best and most consistent New American restaurants on the Top 100 list. General manager Jason Gut said the 65-seat restaurant had been “bursting at the seams during the weekends” for the past few years.
The new location will have a deck overlooking the bay, a waterfront fire pit, a taproom, a private dining room (with a view into the kitchen) and two fireplaces. It will seat about 200 people, but, Gut said, the main dining room will accommodate about 65 people, “so it will have the same cozy feel.” No menu changes are anticipated.
The Lake House remains open for business. Gut said the move is scheduled for early summer 2016 and that the plan is for there to be no more than a few weeks between the closing of the old facility and the opening of the new one.
