For the second consecutive year, Gerry Hayden of The North Fork Table & Inn in Southold is a finalist in the James Beard Foundation Awards as best chef in the northeast.
He's one of five finalists for the award. His four competitors are Jamie Bissonnette of Coppa in Boston; Tim Cushman of O Ya in Boston; Matthew and Kate Jennings of La Laiterie in Providence; and Eric Warnstedt of Hen of the Wood in Waterbury, Conn. They were chosen from 20 semifinalists.
Last year, Hayden made it to the finals. But the winner was Tony Maws of Craigie on Main in Cambridge.
This year's winners will be announced May 7 at the foundation's annual gala at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. Hayden is the lone Long Island representative among the nominees.
The five nominees for best chef in New York City are Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern, April Bloomfield of The Spotted Pig, Wylie Dufresne of wd-50, Mark Ladner of Del Posto, and Michael White of Marea.
