Lil’ Left Coast, the innovative Bellmore takeout shop opened in 2014 by Chris and Heather Randell, has closed. In a laudable display of candor, the couple posted on the shop’s Facebook page that “this concept, although loved by many, had flaws from the get go but we did not see them. The menu was simply too big, the concept was not concise enough and there is no amount of ‘good vibes’ that could balance out the costs.”

When the Randells took over the Bellmore spot, they gave the former Spiro’s Famous Pizza a thorough and stylish makeover (including one of Long Island’s most elegant restrooms). Although Lil’ Left Coast is closed, they are keeping the property and intend to reopen after spending “some time getting inspiration for a new concept that’s just right.”

The Randells also own Left Coast Kitchen in Merrick, which opened in 2010 and last year was named one of Newsday’s Top 10 gastropubs for 2015. That restaurant, they wrote, “is strong and staying for a long time.”
