While many restaurants close on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, there are some hospitable places offering festive holiday dining for those of us who don’t want to cook. Kosher delis and Chinese restaurants often stay open. Before heading out to your favorite local spot, call ahead to make sure it is serving. For lunch or dinner at a fancier place, reservations are usually required. Here are some choices:


Atlantica at the Allegria (80 W. Broadway, Long Beach, 516-992-3730) will host a $69 prix fixe Christmas Day dinner ($30 for children). The three-course meal includes choice of appetizer (shrimp cocktail, butternut squash soup, chopped salad with cranberry vinaigrette), main course (mustard seed-crusted filet mignon, oven-roasted salmon, rigatoni with roasted winter vegetables), and dessert (strawberry-rhubarb crumble, chocolate crème brûlée, and fresh fruit). Reservations required.

Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen (140 Wheatley Plaza, Greenvale; 516-621-3340) will be serving its regular menu from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 24, and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 25. That’s great news if you’re craving fried kreplach ($9.99), or stuffed derma ($9.99). Warming chicken soup comes with either a matzo ball, kreplach, noodles or rice ($4.99-$5.49). For dessert, there’s chocolate babka ($4.29) or mini rugelach ($3.49). Other locations in Carle Place and Woodbury.

Cassariano Italian Eatery (348 Jericho Tpke., Mineola, 516-280-8990) will be serving its regular menu on Christmas Eve. Antipasti include arancini with prosciutto and truffles, seafood salad with shrimp, calamari, octopus, mussels and carpaccio with arugula and Parmesan. A large choice of pastas includes gnocchi with Buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes, spinach and ricotta ravioli with Gorgonzola sauce, and spaghetti with lamb meatballs. Festive entrees such as duck breast with fig risotto, zuppa di pesce, and center-cut filet mignon with peppercorns round out the offerings.

Chef Wang (1902 Jericho Tpke., New Hyde Park; 516-354-2858, chefwangny.com) will be open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, allowing diners to celebrate Sichuan specialties such as fried beef or lamb with cumin, spicy pork hock, fish with boiling oil and cook-at-the-table hot pots. The extensive menu also includes some Shanghai specialties (such as steamed soup dumplings and Shanghai bok choy with shiitake mushrooms) as well as a full roster of Cantonese and Chinese-American dishes. Wonton soup, fried rice, lo mein, beef with broccoli, mu shu pork, General Tso’s chicken — all present and accounted for. And there is a full sushi bar menu, too. Most entrees are less than $20.

Eric’s Italian Bistro (70 Old Country Rd., Mineola; 516-280-5675) will be open on Christmas Day, offering their a la carte dinner menu from 1 to 9 p.m. You might start with baked clams oreganata ($11.95) or goat cheese-stuffed portobello mushrooms ($12.95). Penne with shrimp, shiitakes and asparagus ($24.95) or with broccoli rabe and sausage ($21.95) are among the pasta choices. Entrees might include a whole bone-in chicken scarpariello for two ($42.95), loin of pork Milanese ($21.95) or shrimp scampi ($25.95). Reservations recommended.

Fortune Wheel Seafood Restaurant (3601 Hempstead Tpke., Levittown; 516-579-4700) will be open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Come to this old-school Chinese restaurant for dim sum as well as well-made classics such as fried squid and spicy salt, shrimp with lobster sauce, kung pao chicken, and eggplant with garlic sauce. Dinner for less than $25 a person. Reservations recommended.

Gatsby’s Landing (1362 Northern Blvd., Roslyn; 516-277-2318, gatsbyslanding.com) will be open Christmas Eve, serving dinner all day from the regular menu, with chef’s specials for the holiday. Start your meal off with blue crab sliders ($23), fried artichokes with Meyer lemon and Aleppo pepper ($15), or grilled octopus ($22). Raw bar selections include fluke ceviche ($17) and a daily selection of oysters ($18 for 6, $32 for a dozen). Entrees range from roasted duck breast ($35) to a porterhouse for two ($129). Reservations recommended.

LB Social (62 W. Park Ave., Long Beach; 516-431-7846, lbsocialny.com) will be open Christmas Eve. From the regular menu, order lamb sliders ($12), candied thick-cut bacon with apple and jicama salad ($14), or steak tartare with shallots, fried capers, garlic mayo and a sunny-side up egg ($14). Move on to mains that will include linguine with chicken meatballs ($21), a double-cut pork chop with roasted cauliflower and a potato apple cake ($25); and boneless chicken Scarpiello with andouille sausage, roasted peppers and fingerling potatoes ($24). Reservations recommended.

The Orient (623 Hicksville Rd., Bethpage; 516-822-1010) will be open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., serving dim sum from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the regular menu throughout. If you enjoy old-school Chinese, you will like the greaseless shrimp toast ($6.50), beautifully lacquered barbecued spare ribs ($11.95-$16.95) and spicy shrimp with garlic sauce ($15.50).

Palm Court at the Carltun (Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, 516-542-0700) will host a Christmas Eve prix fixe from 3 to 10 p.m. for $85 ($35 for kids). Plentiful choices include stuffed artichoke, jumbo shrimp cocktail and lobster ravioli to start, seafood, beet, or fennel salad and entrees such as seafood risotto, breaded veal chop and grilled filet mignon. For an additional $125, add a celebratory seafood platter of lobster, King crab, oysters and clams.

Red Salt Room by David Burke (45 Seventh St., Garden City; 516-877-9385, gardencityhotel.com) will be serving its regular menu on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Start your meal with a festive seafood tower ($75). Burke specialties such as candied bacon on a clothesline ($22) and dry-aged steaks and chops are on the menu, along with seafood dishes including nori-crusted tuna ($36), poached lobster ($56) and ginger-pepper salmon ($28). Reservations required.

Revel Restaurant & Bar (835 Franklin Ave., Garden City, 516-246-9111) will be offering its regular a la carte menu along with some holiday specials for Christmas Eve. Start your meal with sriracha chicken spring rolls ($16), a salad of black truffle burrata with tomatoes and olives ($17) or lobster and shrimp scampi flatbread ($21). Main course choices will include ricotta gnocchi with sausage ($27), ahi tuna with orange and avocado ($38) and skirt steak with truffle fries ($38).

Thyme Restaurant (8 Tower Place, Roslyn, 516-625-2566) will be serving Christmas Eve brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner (with holiday specials) from 4 to 8:30 p.m. For brunch, expect a variety of egg dishes including hanger steak and eggs, eggs Benedict and grilled veal sausage with scrambled eggs. Dinner might include halibut with potatoes Anna, wood-fired double cut pork chops and filet mignon.


110 Japan (179 Walt Whitman Rd., Huntington Station, 631-673-5888) is open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, serving its regular menu. In addition to a large selection of sushi, sashimi, and rolls, 110 Japan offers a wide choice of salads (tuna or salmon with avocado and yuzu dressing for $9), soups (lemongrass hot and sour soup for $7), appetizers (rock shrimp tempura for $9), and hot dishes (wagyu beef meatballs for $12; Peking duck dumplings for $10; shrimp toast with spicy rémoulade for $10).

Baron’s Cove (31 Water St., Sag Harbor; 631-725-2101) will be serving a three-course prix fixe Christmas dinner from 2 to 9 p.m. Starters include a Shinnecock coquilles Saint Jacques, lobster bisque with truffle-lobster salad, and baked oysters with cornmeal gratinee. For mains, choose between roasted Long Island duck, oven-roasted codfish and filet of beef with leek gratin. Desserts are classic: New York cheesecake, chocolate-orange pots de crème, and croissant bread pudding. $74 for adults, $28 for children. Reservations required.

Bistro 72 at the Hotel Indigo (1830 West Main St., Riverhead, 631-369-3325) is offering a three-course prix fixe dinner on both the 24th and the 25th, from 3 p.m. to close. For $55 ($22.50 for kids under 12), choose an appetizer (French onion soup or a pear and Gorgonzola salad), an entree (seafood linguine, honey-glazed ham and beef Wellington are among the options) and dessert (crème brûlée, chocolate chip bread pudding or hazelnut gelato cake).

The Inn Spot on the Bay is offering a Christmas Day prix fixe dinner for $55 ($25 for children 12 and under). Classic appetizers include baked oysters with spinach and cream, crab bisque and vegetable soup with turkey and stuffing. Entrees are equally traditional: Christmas goose, baked ham and roast beef. Finish off your meal with a choice of apple-pear cake, Irish Christmas pudding with hard sauce or chocolate mousse.

Jedediah Hawkins Inn (400 S. Jamesport Ave, Riverhead, 631- 722-2900): This cozy North Fork restaurant in a historic inn will be serving its regular menu along with holiday specials on Christmas Eve. The eclectic American selection includes appetizers such as a flatbread with mushrooms and Gruyere ($16); and Crescent Farms duck wings with Asian chili sauce ($15). The large plate selection might feature cioppino with shrimp, local little necks and mussels ($41); and double-cut smoked pork chop with spaghetti squash and apple chutney ($32).

Jonathan’s Ristorante (15 Wall St., Huntington; 631-549-0055, jonathansristorante.com) will offer a special Christmas Eve menu as well as its regular dinner menu from 4 to 9 p.m. Just for the holiday: pancetta corn chowder with shrimp ($12), spaghetti with lobster and baby artichokes ($29), a 16-ounce rack of lamb with roasted potatoes ($46), and halibut with puy lentil salad ($36). Reservations recommended.

Restaurant Mirabelle (150 Main St., Stony Brook; 631-751-0555) will be cooking a special three-course Christmas Eve dinner. The meal begins with an appetizer such as pan-seared foie gras or scallop and salmon terrine. Indulgent main courses include roasted lamb loin or prime rib. There will be a choice of dessert. $65 for adults, half price for children 10 and younger. Reservations required.

Sandbar (55 Main St., Cold Spring Harbor, 631-498-6188) will be serving a special Christmas Eve menu. Appetizers will include pan roasted foie gras with chestnut sauce ($18), Fisher Island Oysters ($18), and chickpea fries with sriracha aioli ($13). Holiday entrees like roasted prime rib ($38), linguine fra diavolo ($26), and branzino fish and chips ($32) will be served. Enjoy ginger almond tart ($11) or chocolate lava cake for dessert ($11). Reservations required.

View (3 Consuelo Place, Oakdale; 631-589-2694, lessings.com) will feature a special a la carte menu on Christmas Eve. A raw bar includes oysters with red wine mignonette ($3 each) and Little Neck clams with horseradish ($1.75 each. Tuna tartare ($15) and Peking duck tacos ($14) are among the appetizers. In addition to pan-seared scallops with lobster-truffle risotto ($38) and roasted Scottish salmon with golden quinoa ($29), entrees will include Maine lobster garganelli ($30) and roasted chicken with gnocchi and cremini mushrooms ($27). Reservations recommended.

Wave Seafood and Steak (25 E. Broadway, Port Jefferson, 631-928-5200) is open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, offering special menus for both holidays. Christmas Eve is a prix fixe, at $68 per person. There’s no children’s discount, but the restaurant’s children’s menu will be available. On Christmas Day there will be a grand buffet, for $58.95 per person, $24.95 for kids. Reservations recommended.
