Long Island restaurants serving great steak and sushi
Steak and sushi combine to create the surf-and-turf of this decade, as more beef emporiums are adding uncooked fish to the lineup. Here are three that definitely succeed.
BLACKSTONE STEAKHOUSE, 10 Pinelawn Rd., Melville; 631-271-7780
The quality of the beef always is matched by the seafood at this Anthony Scotto spot. All steaks are first-rate, as are nigirizushi and sushi rolls. On Sundays, there's a traditional special -- filet mignon and Maine lobster for two. Surf-and-turf roll: spicy lobster, Kobe beef, sukiyaki.
RARE650, 650 Jericho Tpke., Syosset; 516-496-8000
Also a Scotto restaurant, Rare650 offers very satisfying beef and reef. Standouts include porterhouse steak, 2-pound Maine lobster, marinated skirt steak, all shellfish cocktails, nigirizushi, sashimi and sushi platters, yellowtail jalapeño, grilled octopus.
UNION PRIME STEAK & SUSHI, 661 Northern Blvd., Great Neck; 516-487-9200
The newest addition to Long Island's top-tier steakhouses, Union is especially fine for sashimi and straightforward sushi, notably fatty tuna and maguro tuna. Tasty crabcakes, shellfish cocktails and steaks, from porterhouse to sirloin, strip steak to rib steak, and filet mignon.
