The Italian word “tiramisu” translates as "pick me up.” It’s an apt name for a dessert that’s just about a requirement on any Italian-American menu.

The creamy tiramisu at this spacious pizzeria-trattoria is made with imported mascarpone and ladyfingers soaked in espresso. Sprinkled on top is cocoa. $7.95

At this Long Beach spot, the tiramisu is made with mascarpone, rum, espresso, ladyfingers and unsweetened cocoa. It all adds up to a light and subtly boozy finale. $7

The lush tiramisu is made with whipped mascarpone spiked with Galliano liqueur. It’s layered with ladyfingers dipped in espresso and topped with cocoa powder.  $8

You’ll want to sink your fork into the airy tiramisu at this Italian newcomer.  It’s made with mascarpone, espresso, house-made Italian cookies, whipped pasteurized egg whites, and cocoa powder. $7.50
