Always on the lookout for a great lobster roll, I came across a real champ in an unlikely place: Tim’s Shipwreck Diner in Northport.

The roll had big chunks of fresh lobster meat, very little mayonnaise and just a bit of celery. My one quibble was that the hot dog bun it was served on should have been toasted or grilled. Easily remedied by simply requesting it that way.

While the lobster roll is listed as a daily special, chef Damon Pratt informs me it’s pretty much available every day. Plated with fries, macaroni salad and coleslaw, it’s a lot of lunch for $15.95.

Tim’s Shipwreck Diner is at 46 Main St., Northport, 631-754-1797.
