My plans to have a big bowl of chicken soup at La Finca in Farmingdale were scotched today: The Colombian restaurant is no longer there. I’ll have to travel to the original Hicksville La Finca for my fix.

I headed south on Main Street and stuck my head into the Dominican Restaurant. Since my last visit, management has turned down the volume on the television, so I stopped in for lunch. This is an extremely clean and friendly spot—the waitress approached my table with “What can I get for you, my love?”—and the prices can’t be beat. I had a big platter of pernil (roast pork) with fried plantains, salad, white rice and black beans: $6.99 plus tax, and it was enough for two. A few doors down, in what used to be Ben & Jerry’s, Singa’s Pizza has opened at 313 Main St., Farmingdale, 516-586-6690. And I should also mention that Cascarino’s (with locations in College Point, Queens and in Citi Field) has opened across the street. A while back I had a truly Platonic slice of grandma pizza there. Today, as I was picking up a takeout menu, a waitress came out and greeted me. “I just want to tell you,” she said, “our lunch special price on pasta is good every day except Sunday from eleven to four.” Those special prices range from $5.95 for tomato sauce, marinara sauce, aglio-olio and meatballs to $9.95 for seafood and Florentine. “And we have free delivery,” she added.
