Marco’s Waterfront Grill is the newest occupant of the restaurant in the Brewer Capri Marina East in Port Washington. This oft-churned site was most recently RiverFish, which opened in 2014 and replaced Aquarelle 45 — which lasted fewer than six months. Earlier occupants include Marino’s on the Bay, DiMaggio’s on the Bay, P.W.’s Chowderhouse and Latitudes.
Owner Marco Minuto grew up in a pizzeria-owning family and was the founder of Red Castle Bakeries, a manufacturer of Jamaican meat patties in Bay Shore that closed a few years ago.
Right now, Minuto is also the chef, though he anticipates bringing on more kitchen staff as the season gets underway. A busier dining room will also require him to prune the menu which, in the offseason, seems to cover most culinary bases including Italian-American (baked clams, penne alla vodka), New American (lobster mac & cheese, pan-seared sesame tuna), fish house: New England clam chowder, grilled swordfish), steakhouse (16-ounce rib-eye, marinated skirt steak), mash-up pizza (topped with shrimp arrabiatta or BBQ chicken-bacon-ranch), global sandwiches (shrimp po boy, meatball Parm hero), creative sliders (Philly cheesesteak, seared tuna with sriracha) and burgers (the MWG Awesome burger with, among other toppings, jalapeño, caramelized onions and fried egg).
Most mains are below $30, with most pizzas, burgers, pastas and sandwiches well below $20.
Winter hours are Tuesday to Thursday 2 to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday 2 p.m. to midnight, Sunday noon to 10 p.m.
