Parlaying one Rockville Centre restaurant into a second, Rob Verderosa, owner of Parlay Gastropub, just launched Mesita, a Mexican dining spot situated two doors down. It takes over the space last occupied by 212 Sushi Lounge. Verderosa described it as hip and modern, with a rustic look and lots of custom steel work.

"It's authentic Mexican, not fusion or hybrid," he said.

Chef Victor Chicas, who hails from Mexico and cooked at Parlay, offers a menu that includes such dishes as tamales de puerco (pork tamales), elotes callejeros (street corn), ceviche de camarones (shrimp ceviche), enchiladas verdes, mole poblano and a variety of tacos, most served on soft corn tortillas. Prices for individual portions run $4.95 (tostada) to $28.95 (grilled rib-eye steak). Most dishes are under $20.

Mesita is at 212 Merrick Rd., Rockville Centre, 516-282-9900
