When I learned that Michelangelo Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria in Manorville had closed, I decided to call around to a few similarly named spots for more information. None, as it turned out, had any connection with that particular restaurant.

But from that search came an appreciation of  the sheer multitude of pizza/pasta places in Eastern Suffolk County, and a few in Nassau, named for the renowned — and prolific — Renaissance artist.

There’s an affiliated group of Michelangelo’s restaurants in Eastport, Speonk, Mattituck, Cutchogue and Southold. Then, there’s an independent Michelangelo’s in Center Moriches and another in Middle Island.

I have a feeling these are just the tip of the iceberg. Anyone care to weigh in with more Michelangelos?
