Diner buffs will enjoy the time-warp ambience of this 1946 Mountain-View Diner, which occupies a corner site in Mineola. The fare is simple American breakfast and lunch dishes, augmented by a few Greek specialties, courtesy of Tom Pagonis, who co-owns the place with his wife, Mary.

Recently, lunch began with a creamy corn and potato chowder. I enjoyed a lively gyro wrap even though it was made with a bit too much yogurt sauce. A turkey burger was juicy and satisfying.

Nothing fancy here - just the standards, served by a friendly staff. In some ways, it's still 1946 at the Mineola Diner.
