After 30 years as one of Long Island's top restaurants, Mirko's in Water Mill plans to close in the fall.

"We're retiring while we're still healthy enough to enjoy our retirement," said Eileen Zagar, who, with chef and spouse Mirko, owns the restaurant. "Business is still great," she said, adding that they're not selling the restaurant name.

She expected that Mirko's would remain open through October. The final day is "not definite."

Mirko's has built a loyal clientele with consistently excellent food, served in a cozy, home-like dining room that holds about 12 tables. Eileen Zagar is the maitresse d', hostess and front-of-the-house manager.

Zagar is known for dishes such as Croatian sweet-and-sour stuffed cabbage, spice-rubbed Long Island duck breast with orange-honey-pomegranate sauce, and caramelized oranges with Grand Marnier and vanilla ice cream.

Reserve a table whenever you can.
