After a six-month renovation, MoCA Asian Bistro in Hewlett has reopened. The restaurant, whose name stands for Modern Concept of Culinary Arts, expanded into the neighboring liquor store (So long, Plaza Liquors), raised the roof and completely redecorated the dining room with lavish use of stone, wood paneling and dramatic light fixtures. A new private dining room, seating as many as 25, can accommodate private parties or business meetings.
The menu, a fusion of Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Malaysian, remains the same.
The Hewlett location, opened in 2007, was MoCA’s first. The company also operates MoCAs in Forest Hills (2008) and Woodbury (2014) as well as the fast-casual MoCA Express restaurants in Lawrence and Inwood.
Ivan Zhong, the group’s executive district manager, said that the renovation was an investment in MoCA’s future in Hewlett. “We’ve been in the neighborhood for nine years already. Our customers deserve a more upscale setting,” he said.
