After a successful three-year run in Riverhead, popular cafe Mugs on Main is pouring into a second location, in Quogue.
The cafe’s new outpost is inside Quogue at Schmidt's Country Market at 164 Jessup Ave. Named Mugs at Schmidt’s Market, it opened Friday.
The owner of Schmidt’s Country Market, Daniel Schmidt, said the partnership with the owners of Mugs on Main, husband-and-wife duo Jeff Schaeffer and Kasandra Watkins-Schaeffer, started in March.
“We wanted to do green juices and smoothies and felt that we could use a barista over here to add to our store,” Schmidt said.
The cafe opened on Riverhead’s Main Street in 2023 and is known for its broken bacon, egg and cheese, a deconstructed version of the favorite breakfast sandwich served in a mug. It’s become a go-to spot for Riverhead locals.
Kasandra Watkins-Schaeffer said the partnership was a “perfect fit.” The cafe takes over a 13-by-13-foot nook at the front of the store that used to be for ice cream.
“It seemed like a good fit for our brand and what we do and a good fit for what [Daniel Schmidt] does with his brand and it pieced together from that,” Watkins-Schaeffer said.
On the menu: the churro latte ($7.90 for large), the la Azteca ($7.90 for large) or the over the rainbow ($7.90 for large) which is the latte version of the popular rainbow cookie. The smoothie selection is expanded in Quogue, Watkins-Schaeffer said.
Smoothies (16 ounces, $7.80) on the menu include pineapple, mango and banana, strawberry and raspberry. Add-ins include vegan protein, whey protein, spinach, chia, almond butter and peanut butter.
Mugs at Schmidt’s also offers savory and sweet pastries.
