Plenty of food items garner an annual homage, but National Doughnut Day is extra sweet. It comes with freebies.
The first Friday in June, we honor this empty-calorie treat. And so it is for NDD 2014. Here's where to celebrate.
At participating Dunkin' Donuts, get a free doughnut of your choice with the purchase of a beverage (while supplies last). That means you could try new flavor blueberry cobbler, or go with a classic glazed. DD is all over Long Island. Find the location nearest you: dunkindonuts.com.
Krispy Kreme no longer operates on LI, but if you're headed into the city, you'll want to go to 2 Pennsylvania Plaza, inside Penn Station, upstairs Amtrak level (krispykreme.com). KK is giving away one free doughnut -- pick a doughnut, any doughnut -- per person, no purchase necessary. New varieties include Brownie Batter and Birthday Cake Batter.
At Cumberland Farms, a minimart chain with several LI locations including Huntington Station and Plainview, buy a coffee or Chill Zone drink and get a free doughnut. Find a location near you: cumberlandfarms.com.
