Where there’s smoke, there’s usually a new barbecue spot. A first for Long Island – and New York – is Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Oceanside. It’s part of a Texas-based national franchise that dates back to 1941.

When I stopped in for lunch, I found the crew behind the counter to be friendly and enthusiastic. They sounded almost – well, Texan

Fired up about: Deeply smoky succulent “signature” chopped brisket, piquant- sweet jalapeno barbecue beans, comforting baked potato casserole.

Lukewarm on: So called “fall-off-the bone” pork ribs that were dry and stuck to the bone.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is at 3115 Long Beach Rd., ?Oceanside, 516- 442-2530, dickeys.com
