Don’t look now, but here comes another new burger/ hot dog house. This one is called Jimmyjacks and it opened last month in Bellmore.

The handsome (in a simple, spare way) place is owned by brothers Dave and Dan Morris, who say they’ve long dreamed about opening just such a spot.

I like that Jimmyjacks isn’t geared to the “supersize-me” mentality. You can get a regular burger or hot dog or else a “mini.” The burgers are fashioned of fresh (never frozen) American beef, a sirloin and brisket mixture, from Main Street Meats in Farmingdale. Toppings (like sauteed onions, tomato, lettuce, red onions) are free. Dogs are either regular sized all-beef Sabretts or mini beef-and-pork dogs.

I tried a bacon cheeseburger on a brioche bun. Despite being well-done rather than medium-rare, it's juicy and full of flavor; a grilled Sabrett frank rates highly, too. My only complaint is the usual:  fries are pre-frozen instead of just-cut from fresh potatoes.

To have with or after: a chocolate milk shake, cold and sweet.

Jimmyjacks is at, 221 Bedford Ave., Bellmore, 516-557-2455, jimmyjacksny.com
