Nisen closing in Woodbury; expanding in Suffolk

Tomorrow will be the last night for Nisen in Woodbury. The lounge-y sushi spot, which also served a contemporary Japanese-New American menu, opened in 2007. In 2008, it headed the list of Newsday's sushi restaurants.
But the Nisen name goes on. With an existing location in Commack, Nisen will be opening two new Suffolk County branches — one, as already reported, in the former Melville home of Barolo (to be named Nisen 110) and another in the bi-level St. James space that, years ago, housed Intermezzo. It will be called Nisen 347.
Co-owner Tom Lam said that the St. James branch, which isn't in need of major construction, should open in about two months. It will have a lounge on the first floor and a main dining room and sushi bar on the second. Expect private booths and a basement party room, too.
As for the Melville branch, which needs more work, Lam estimates about 4 to 5 months of construction.
Meanwhile, if all goes as planned, MoCA Asian Bistro, with a Long Island location in Hewlett, will be opening a branch in the vacated Woodbury digs of Nisen.
