One Main in Babylon: First bites

At the corner of West Main Street and Deer Park Avenue, One Main has found its very visible niche.
The pubby restaurant offers fine local beers, the foods that go with them, and an upbeat ambience. Service can be forgetful, and all the dishes don't exactly soar. But One Main is worth a visit for a casual night out.
A good special: shrimp and andouille sausage atop scallion-flecked grits. Also, try the butternut-squash rice balls, polenta fries and the maple-brown sugar-treated beef shank. Skip the cardboardy pizzas and choices such as country-fried steak and gnocchi.
And enjoy one of the Long Island brews, which include beer from comparative newcomers such as Spider Bite and Rocky Point.
