Opa opens in Islip

When a Greek restaurant has a name like Opa, you expect at least some plate-smashing. What I find is even better: some smashing plates.
A heap of marinated grilled lamb chops (enough for 2) has spicy-smoky juiciness and a price tag of only $17. And sign me up for another go at the delectable lemon-baked half chicken with lemon roasted potatoes. Add extra points for really fine service.
The spiffy new place has taken over the old digs of Chani’s Unique Indian Restaurant, an ambitious place that never quite took off. From the look of Opa's crowd the other night, I’m thinking that this is a much more realistic venture.
Opa is at 260 Islip Ave., Islip, 631-650-0620
