Situated just steps from the Nassau-Queens borderline, Caspian Grill in Great Neck serves up a menu of kebabs and Mediterranean specialties with an emphasis on Persian cuisine. The menu calls the fare "Mediterranean fast food."
I dashed in for a quick bowl of lentil soup and a well-seasoned koobideh kebab (ground beef and spices) sandwich on pita bread, comprising a $6.50 lunch special. The gentleman who took my order couldn’t have been more welcoming.
Other dishes that piqued my curiosity: bone-in Cornish hen kebab and the vegetarian koo koo sabzi described as a baked medley of parsley, cilantro and dill with eggs and seasoning.
Sandwiches on the a la carte menu run $7.50 to $8.50, entrees $$8.50 to $21.50.
You may or may not find parking right outside, but, according to owner Mike Soroush, you can avail yourself of a driveway in the back, off Nassau Road.
Caspian Grill is at 19 Northern Blvd., Great Neck, 516-829-0800.
