Open in Blue Point: Amara Kitchen & Cocktails
In a speedy nine-week renovation, Blue Point's New American steakhouse Blue has been transformed into the Greek-inflected Amara Kitchen & Cocktails.
Jerry Stathopoulos, who owns the restaurant with his father, George, said that it was time to "freshen the concept." With Amara, he said, the Greek-American family is “going back to our roots.”
Amara’s kitchen is in the hands of chef Steven LaBiner, a Florida transplant. Appetizers, $8 to $16, get some twists: tzatziki (yogurt dip with cucumber and garlic) is prepared tableside; the fried calamari is dredged in chickpea flour; pan-seared scallops are served on a cauliflower puree. Entrees range from lamb burger with pickled eggplant and oven-braised lamb gyro (both $15) to pan-seared salmon ($25), seafood bouillabaisse ($29), an 18-ounce New York strip steak ($32), and a whole grilled branzino ($35).
Over the course of its run, Blue’s focus shifted more toward the bar and to catering. General manager Carlo Bruno, who owned Bullfish in Sayville, said that Amara’s focus would be squarely on the restaurant.
Amara Kitchen & Cocktails is at 7 Montauk Hwy., Blue Point, 631-363-6666.
