La Lanterna is new to East Quogue. And yet not.
Owner Stephen Alegria said his parents bought the place in the early 1980s and ran it as La Lanterna until the late 90s. Between then and now, the site has housed a string of restaurants, among them The Point and the Pine Barrens Inn. Last Friday, Alegria opened the place under its original name.
The menu features such items as mussels with red sauce ($18.95), clams casino ($10.95) and Atlantic swordfish ($24.95). Local fish and shellfish are used wherever possible.
Outdoor seating wraps around much of the building. Come summer, Alegria says he expects to open for breakfast on the deck.
