El Pio Peruvian Restaurant, Glen Cove

My déjà vu experience continues at the Glen Cove storefront that, within the past four years, has housed Café Aioli, preceded by Due Pazzi, El Misti and La Caravana Chicken & Grill.

The newest occupant is El Pio Peruvian Restaurant, the third Peruvian spot to give it a go at this address. I’m an optimist, though, and, having dined there recently, see positive signs for the future.

For one thing, every table was filled the night I went. For another, there was an amazing bargain dinner on the menu: A whole rotisserie-roasted chicken (every fiber of meat infused with a complex blend of spices), accompanied by salad, rice and beans and an unusual appetizer of fries (the previously frozen sort, unfortunately) topped with thin fried slices of frankfurter. It was a meal that would handily feed four and cost just $25. Total. Really.

El Pio Peruvian Restaurant is at 63 Glen St., Glen Cove, 516-801-4806.
