The cavernous building across from Walt Whitman Shops that, for years, hosted East Buffet, and, later, Best Buffet, just opened with a new occupant: 110 Japan, a sit-down restaurant.
Owner Sonny Ling said the extensively remodeled space seats 350. It’s divided into two separate areas, one a sushi restaurant and, the other a Japanese hibachi steakhouse outfitted with 12 tables. In between is a lounge area with seven TV screens.
I popped in for a quick peek. The look was sleek and contemporary, with lots of blue lighting accents. Dividing the space gave it a much more intimate feeling than one would expect from so vast an area.
On the menu: Lemongrass hot and sour soup ($7), Japanese spring roll ($5), blue crab fajita ($10), truffle white tuna ($11), Amazing Tuna roll ($15), chirashi ($21), Chilean sea bass ($23) and tofu teriyaki ($14). Hibachi dinners include chicken ($17), shrimp and scallop ($23) and filet mignon and lobster ($30).
110 Japan is at 179 Walt Whitman Rd., Huntington Station, 631-673-6666, 110japan.com.
