Lynbrook’s newest gastropub is Brook 23 Bar & Kitchen, which takes over the space vacated by the short-lived Village Square.

Chef-co-owner Richard Soriano has helmed the kitchens at Cedar Creek American Bar & Grill in Glen Cove, Cipollini Trattoria in Manhasset and Nonnino in East Islip. “What we did here was create an atmosphere with an old-school American feel,” Soriano said, adding that the place features “a lot of cool different craft beers — 16 on tap, a slew of bourbons, scotches and whiskeys.” Background music is often bluegrass.

Soriano went on to describe the fare as “higher-end tavern food,” citing as a crowd favorite the restaurant’s duck fries — hand-cut potatoes fried in duck fat and topped with pulled duck confit, duck gravy and Cheddar ($11). “They’re flying out of here,” he quipped. Also on the dinner menu: a 1000 Island burger, a gastro riff on a Big Mac ($14), a lamb burger ($17), a charred kale and mushroom salad ($10), ‘shroom mac and cheese ($12) and roasted free-range chicken ($23).

Brook 23 Bar & Kitchen is at 23 Atlantic Ave., Lynbrook, 516-593-0100, brook23ny.com.
