A major metamorphosis has taken place in Oceanside, where chef-owner Joseph Bonacore recently transformed his gastropub, Lawson Pub, into an Italian-New American restaurant called Fiamma.
Bonacore said that the restaurant's name, which means “flame” in Italian, serves both as a tribute to his late brother, Chris, and also as a sign that he’s gotten back his own fire. Although Bonacore had reopened Lawson Pub shortly after superstorm Sandy took its toll, he said that things were never really the same afterward.
On Bonacore's new menu are such small plates as eggplant meatballs ($8.95), mini rice balls ($9.95) and long-stem artichokes ($9.95). You'll also find a flame-grilled beet salad ($10.05), ricotta and white truffle flatbread ($12.95), straw and hay (green and white pasta) with white clam sauce ($18.95), and a roasted pork shank ($21.95).
Fiamma is at 3112 Lawson Blvd., Oceanside, 516-307-8753
