The wood-burning pizza oven is now fired up at the newly opened Spuntino in St. James. So, too, the gas-fired oven. And, from the kitchen, come pastas, parms and panini.
The new place shares both name and family ownership with the Dix Hills Spuntino, a pizza-pasta restaurant that has been open for about seven years. But, no, it isn’t affiliated with Spuntino Wine Bar & Italian Tapas in The Gallery at Westbury. (The word "spuntino," incidentally, is Italian for snack.)
Owner Michael Lomanto, who is also a partner at the Dix Hills original, said the restaurant seats about 70 in the dining room. There’s also a bar, as well as stools by the pizza counter.
On the menu: a Margherita pizzette, or “personal” pizza, baked in the wood-fired brick oven ($9.50), an 18-inch Neapolitan pizza from the conventional pizza oven ($15.50), baked clams oreganata ($9.95), baked rice balls for two ($10.95), a baker’s dozen fried shrimp ($13.95), shrimp fra diavolo ($16.95), lasagna ($11.25), chicken parmigiana ($18) and a grilled portobello panino ($11).
Spuntino is at 420 N. Country Rd., St. James, 631-686-6700, spuntinoonline.com.
