Open in West Babylon: Woody's American Grill
Woody’s American Grill is up and grilling in West Babylon. The casual new counter-serve spot offers a simple menu of American fast-food favorites — burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. It’s owned by two West Babylon natives — Woody Kerzner (former owner of Green Cactus Grill, which Woody's replaces), and his business partner, Larry Doyle.
“You walk in and feel you’re at some kind of beach bar,” said Kerzner, who said the place is decorated with signs for Fire Island beaches plus surf boards and beachy knickknacks. The logo is a woody wagon, heading into the sunset.
“Everything is fresh,” said Kerzner, adding that fries are hand-cut and burgers can be cooked to temperature specifications. In fact, you can build your own burger ($3.49 single; $4.99 double) or hot dog ($2.49), drawing on a list of toppings, some free, like lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and jalapeños, and others, like cheese, chili, bacon and onion rings costing an additional 50 cents to 99 cents.
Also on the menu: A grilled-chicken sandwich ($3.69), a Caesar salad ($3.99), a grilled-chicken BLT ($4.59) and a chipotle bacon burger ($4.39). Shakes ($3.91 medium; $4.83 large) come in an array of flavors, including chocolate, coffee and banana.
Woody’s American Grill is at 655 Rte. 109, West Babylon, 631-991-3288.
