The newly opened Venue 56, which earned two-and-a-half stars in its Newsday review today, is offering a $29 "sunset" fixed-price dinner Monday to Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Add $5 for a glass of Champagne, wine or beer.
The fixed-price menu includes some of chef Marc Anthony Bynum's popular New American dishes. Among them: house-smoked barbecued St. Louis-style ribs; a "winter wonderland" salad with heirloom tomatoes, Marcona almonds, fennel, Roquefort cheese and more; and the excellent pan-seared roasted chicken with olives, capers and Cheddar-spiked polenta. Also: the sundae with warm banana bread.
The restaurant is at 470 Wheeler Rd., off Long Island Expressway Exit 56 north; 631-761-5602.
In her Cheap Eats column this week, critic Joan Reminick stops by the new Hooters of Farmingdale. "Serious dining it's not,'' Reminick says. "But for a beer and a burger served with good cheer, it's a scene and a half.''
