Peconic Bay scallops, Long Island's own sweet, nutty, briny little mollusks, are here. The season opened this week and, according to Artie Hoerning, proprietor of Artie’s South Shore Fish Market in Island Park, “it looks like a banner season.” Hoerning is selling the scallops for $24.75 per pound but expects the price to come down in the coming weeks.
Other Long Island fish markets carrying Peconic Bay scallops include:
In Nassau: Hewlett Fish Market in Hewlett ($28), Jewel of the Sea in Woodbury ($24.99), Marine Fisheries in Great Neck ($29.99)
In Suffolk: Alice's Fish Market in Greenport ($14), Atlantic Seafood in Center Moriches ($19.99), Braun Seafood in Cutchogue ($15), Claws Village Fish Market in West Sayville ($23.99), Cor J Seafood in Hampton Bays ($23), Mastic Seafood in Mastic ($16.99), Setauket Seafood in Setauket ($30), Southold Fish Market in Southold ($15) and Stuart’s Seafood Market in Amagansett ($22)
