Plainview: Deli woes

Dinner at Boomy’s, the kosher deli in the same shopping center as Trader Joe’s—which is what brought me there. I was initially charmed by this relish tray, which featured chickpeas in addition to the pickles and coleslaw. (Sauerkraut, you have nothing to worry about: The chickpeas, while a novelty, present no threat to your relish-tray primacy.)
But I was woefully disappointed by a corned-beef-and-tongue sandwich. Because the menu indicated that lean corned beef would cost a dollar more, I figured the “regular” would have a little fat on it. Wrong. In fact I can't imagine how it could have been leaner. But the unkindest cut was the tongue, which was ice cold. Not only is this a very bad temperature for tongue, it effectively cooled down what had been, initially, warm corned beef…which only heightened the latter's unfortunate leanness.
Boomy’s is at 437 South Oyster Bay Rd., Plainview, 516-433-6565.
