True American Bistro in Mineola, a spirited spot for homey updates of casual American fare, has closed.

The restaurant earned a two-star rating in Newsday last year for dishes such as its Wagyu beef, Chicago-style hot dog; meatloaf "poppers" on mashed potatoes; filet mignon sliders; and the Lower East Side sandwich, a tasty spin on the classic Reuben.

The kitchen also prepared very good sesame seed-crusted tuna and grilled striped bass.

True American Bistro was at 348 E. Jericho Tpke., where previous occupants have have included Lula Trattoria and Circa Restaurant.
